In this lesson we explore…
According to the Institute of Coaching, over 80% of people who undergo coaching benefit from increased self-confidence and over 70% improved work performance.
To understand how these benefits play out, let us start by looking at benefit…
Self-confident employees are generally more resilient, assertive and are often the ones who have the courage to speak up when necessary and bring about the changes that can benefit team members and the organisation alike.
Meaning the more confident your employees, the better their performance.
However, many people today struggle with confidence issues at work. Therefore, it is imperative that when managers spot even a hint of lowered confidence in employees, they must take immediate action to deal with it so as to prevent it from having a negative impact on the employee’s performance.
But how? Traditionally, the issue of self-confidence has been dealt with by training employees on topics such as Assertiveness, through which employees could hopefully learn new communication strategies that may help them improve self-confidence.
However, over the years, it has been observed that though these programs may be helpful in bringing about a change in the employees’ external behaviour, they rarely – if ever – produce a sustained increase in confidence.
Why? Because to experience sustained confidence, one would need to make changes in their internal thought processes, which is precisely where coaching can help.
Coaching facilitates frequent communication between managers and their subordinates, creating an invaluable space and opportunity for personal development, enabling greater self-confidence and a fundamental shift in the employees’ approach to work, which in turn helps bring about major performance breakthroughs.
Employee Retention is the first of the three benefits that managers can experience by adopting a coaching mindset.
We will be covering two more benefits in the next lesson.
