Continuing our exploration of how employees benefit from coaching, here’s benefit…Read More
A study by Walden University shows that when employees are aware of how their work aligns with the organisation’s vision and contributes to its success, it drives them to work harder, leading to improved performance and productivity.
However, team meetings and annual performance reviews hardly give employees the opportunity to discuss and gain more insight on how their work connects with and contributes to the organisation’s overall vision.
So… how can that be made possible, you ask? The answer, again, is Coaching.
Coaching is a great way to:
a) Show employees how their work aligns with the organisations’ vision.
b) Communicate where they stand currently regarding goal achievement.
c) Guide them on how those goals can be achieved.
Thus enabling better employee performance and productivity.
Let us now move on to benefit …
A Gallup study found that one of the most common factors leading to employee exits is a lack of growth and development opportunities.
Skill development is often the cornerstone of any career progression, and employees benefit from skilled direction on this front.
Even Google, whose workforce was initially against managers, found that their employees wanted to be closely managed on their careers, but didn’t see the value in managers as they weren’t interested in coaching team members.
Engaging in frequent coaching conversations with employees can enable managers to gain a better understanding of the employees’ thoughts, behaviours, career aspirations, way of working, strengths and areas of improvement, and then use this knowledge to:
a) Match employees with different assignments and projects that excite and energise them.
b) Bridge knowledge and skill gaps so as to encourage continuous performance improvement.
Thus creating numerous opportunities for growth and development, that can:
a) Help build a highly skilled workforce, and
b) Greatly reduce the probability of employee exits due to lack of growth and development opportunities.
Thus far, we have seen how coaching benefits managers and employees. In the next lesson we will explore how coaching benefits organisations.
