Let us recap what we have explored is the connection between energy and productivity.

Sleep – Key Notes

Sleep allows the human body to repair itself and the brain to process information. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night for your body and mind to function well.

Considering this, if you feel you haven’t been experiencing enough sleep, you can improve it by…

  1. Sticking to a consistent bedtime and wake-up schedule.
  2. Avoiding alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and similar substances close to bedtime.
  3. Practising relaxation and mindfulness meditation right before bedtime.
  4. Altering your smartphone behaviour.
  5. Having a relaxing bath before bedtime.

Exercise – Key Notes

Regular exercise improves cognitive function, mental health and memory, and reduces stress, social anxiety and depression.

Dr Anders Hansen has identified various exercise routines that can help one improve cognitive skills.

These exercise routines include:

  1. Cardio for stress reduction and anxiety relief
  2. Running to improve mood, concentration, creativity, and reduce depression.
  3. Walking, Light Jogging, Weight Training – in that order – to improve memory, slow down brain ageing.

Diet – Key Notes

The diet we follow has a direct impact on our work performance. Therefore, if we want to increase work productivity, we need to make intelligent decisions concerning our food.

To switch to a healthy diet, you need to…

  1. Eliminate Consuming Junk Food
  2. Include energy-boosting superfoods in your diet

Stress Management – Key Notes

Regularly being exposed to stressful situations can lead to chronic stress, impairs a person’s ability to work well, resulting in low productivity.

The good news is that it is possible to manage stress by:

  • Maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and getting adequate sleep
  • Practising relaxation techniques, such as yoga, deep breathing, and meditation
  • Taking up a hobby
  • Fostering healthy relationships
  • Developing a healthy sense of humour
  • Volunteering for community service
  • Seeking professional help when needed
