Quite evidently, the consequences of failing to communicate can be catastrophic even in a corporate environment. One textbook example of this, was the worldwide Toyota recall- a major communications disaster for the firm because it “forgot the need for transparency”.
Thereafter the company changed the story and ‘covered up’ the true problems, resulting in its image being significantly tarnished. It was announced that Toyota Motors as a whole could face losses totaling to as much as $2bn from lost output and sales worldwide.
Now had the company been transparent, the problem could have been resolved with a far less negative press, and without the decline in sales. So from what the lesson says, what causes a fallout of poor communication ability?
